You can’t go wrong with a smooth mixture of hip hop and jazz. Japanese composer and beatmaker, Kazumi Kaneda does it better than most and his new album Hard Light, his second release on Inner Ocean Records to simplify it, is effortlessly cool.
The release notes are spot on in describing as “a little bit throwback, a little bit lofi, and a lot of pure feeling, this jazzy hip hop release feels right in a smoke-filled lounge or in your car stereo while you cruise toward the sunset.”
A few of my favourite tracks on the project are “Night Fox”, “Code Page”, “Infinite Verification” and “Mind Relaxation.”
A fiercely artistic producer, Kaneda’s new album was produced and mastered entirely by himself in his Tokyo home studio, with the stylish album cover also his own.
