Jazz Detective Records rolls out its first release with Bobby Rodriguez’s super rare Latin jazz LP Simply Macrame.
Recorded in 1973 on Jazz-Men Records the super rare privately pressed LP opens with a 16-minute interpretation of Freddy Hubbard’s ‘Little Sunflower’ with vocals from Betty Macias.
Across four tracks Rodriguez leads a heavyweight line-up that includes Leon Ndugu Chancler (Drums), James Mtume (Congas) and Larry Nash (Piano) to name a few.
This is the first time Simply Macrame has been reissued and the freshly minted label are pulling out all the stops. The reissue of Simply Macrame comes in a screen printed paper counter bag, limited to 1,000 hand-numbered pieces, pressed in the UK on 180g virgin vinyl.
He is presently director of LatinJazz Music and Jazz Trumpet at UCLA, UCI and Pasadena City College, director of the Jazz Adventure, and president of the Hispanic Musicians Association, Inc.
A wonderful album that every Latin jazz fan should own. Don’t sleep.
